TAIWO AWONIYI SET TO JOIN COVENTRY CITY, REUNITE WITH FRANK ONYEKA

Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi is reportedly close to joining fellow Nigerian international Frank Onyeka at Coventry City, with the newly promoted Premier League club set to complete his permanent transfer from Nottingham Forest.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Coventry City and Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement for Awoniyi’s transfer, with the 29-year-old currently undergoing a medical ahead of an official announcement.
Awoniyi will become the second Super Eagles player signed by manager Frank Lampard since Coventry secured promotion to the Premier League, following Onyeka’s permanent arrival from Brentford at the end of last season.
Onyeka joined the club after an impressive loan spell, during which he made 14 Championship appearances, scoring once and providing an assist. His contributions were instrumental in Coventry’s promotion campaign, which ended the club’s 25-year absence from the Premier League.
Awoniyi brings considerable top-flight experience to the CBS Arena, having scored 23 goals and registered six assists in 103 appearances across all competitions during his four-year spell at Nottingham Forest. Of those goals, 21 came in the Premier League, where he made 90 appearances.
The Nigerian forward, who was part of Nigeria’s victorious 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup squad, joined Nottingham Forest from Union Berlin in 2022. His career has also included spells at Mainz 05, Royal Excel Mouscron, Gent, NEC Nijmegen and FSV Frankfurt.
With Onyeka already established at Coventry, Awoniyi is expected to add valuable Premier League experience as the club strengthens its squad for the new season.
