Three suspected kidnappers were feared dead on Monday following a midnight gun battle with security operatives in Otu, the headquarters of Itesiwaju Local Government Area of Oyo State.
It was gathered that the suspects had invaded the community under the cover of darkness and abducted a resident, causing widespread panic among locals.
According to eyewitnesses, local farmers first spotted the intruders and quickly raised the alarm. This prompted a swift response from state-backed security personnel who engaged the armed suspects in a shootout.
“Three of the suspected kidnappers were gunned down during the confrontation, while one managed to escape with the abducted victim,” a source revealed.
Another eyewitness, who requested anonymity, confirmed that efforts are currently underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect and rescue the victim.
“The matter has been formally reported to the Otu Police Division for further investigation and coordinated response,” the source added.
Attempts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, for official confirmation were unsuccessful as calls and messages went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
