President Bola Tinubu is set to embark on a two-state visit to Akwa Ibom and Rivers states beginning Friday, during which he will commission projects executed by the state governments and participate in political rallies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The President will begin his visit in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, where he is expected to inaugurate several infrastructure projects completed by Governor Umo Eno’s administration before attending a political rally.
Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the visit in a statement on Thursday, outlining the projects scheduled for inauguration.
Among the projects are the new International Terminal Building, International Airport Hospital and Ibom Aviation Village, all situated at Victor Attah International Airport.
Other projects include the Airport-Okopedi Road, which connects communities in Nsit Atai and Okobo Local Government Areas, and Ring Road 3, linking Idoro Road to Ikot Ekpene Road through Uyo and Ibiono Ibom.
The President is also expected to commission the AKWA-GIS Office Complex, the Command and Control Centre, and the ARISE Palm Resort.
According to Onanuga, Governor Eno has declared Friday a work-free day to allow residents to participate in the activities marking the President’s visit.
Following his engagements in Akwa Ibom, Tinubu will proceed to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Saturday to attend an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally.
The presidential aide described the Rivers rally as the third political gathering Tinubu would personally attend since officially commencing his re-election campaign in Kaduna last month.
Onanuga said the visits would also provide the President with an opportunity to interact with political stakeholders, party members and supporters, while reinforcing the need for unity, political stability and a collective commitment to national development.
The visit comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections and follows Governor Eno’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling APC in June 2025.
Eno, who was elected governor in 2023 on the PDP platform, had explained that his decision to join the APC was aimed at aligning Akwa Ibom with the Federal Government and improving the state’s access to federal support.
The governor has also publicly declared his support for Tinubu’s re-election bid, making the planned Uyo rally another demonstration of the political alliance between both leaders ahead of the 2027 elections.
Tinubu’s planned participation in the rallies also comes amid his earlier indication that he would not personally attend campaign events across every state due to his responsibilities as President.
Speaking at the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja on October 14, Tinubu said he would not accompany the campaign team everywhere, citing his duties as head of government, the country’s financial commitments and the need to attract investors.
The Kaduna rally held on October 24 marked his first personal appearance at a campaign event since the official flag-off, with the planned visits to Akwa Ibom and Rivers signalling the continuation of the party’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
