Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wukari, have successfully dismantled a gunrunning syndicate operating in the southern part of Taraba State.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops carried out a tactical raid on a settlement in Byepyi Village along Tsukundi Road in Wukari Local Government Area. The operation led to the arrest of two suspects — 55-year-old Buba Idi and 29-year-old Isiyaka Yusufa.

A follow-up investigation and interrogation of the suspects led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, 16 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a Tecno mobile phone, and a Bajaj motorcycle.

In a statement issued by the 6 Brigade Public Relations Officer, Captain Olubodunde Oni, the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing preliminary investigations to uncover more information about their operations and potential accomplices.

Commander of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their swift and professional conduct. He emphasized that the operation forms part of the Brigade’s ongoing efforts to stem the proliferation of illegal arms and enhance overall security across Taraba State.

Brigadier General Uwa also lauded residents of Taraba for their continued support and encouraged them to remain vigilant by providing timely and credible information to security agencies to aid proactive crime prevention.

“The Nigerian Army remains committed to ensuring that criminal elements find no sanctuary within our area of responsibility,” he declared.
