TRUMP PREDICTS ‘VERY BIG’ DEAL WITH RUSSIA, SAYS AGREEMENT COULD INVOLVE ALL OF EUROPE

Agency Report
US President Donald Trump has predicted a major agreement with Russia that could extend beyond the ongoing war in Ukraine to cover wider issues across Europe, following a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s envoy at the White House.
Trump disclosed that he held an unscheduled meeting with Kirill Dmitriev, who was at the White House for discussions with Ukrainian officials hosted by US First Lady Melania Trump.
Speaking to journalists in the Oval Office, Trump declined to reveal details of the discussions but expressed optimism that a significant agreement would emerge.
He described the proposed deal as a major breakthrough, suggesting that it could involve not only Ukraine but the entire European continent.
Trump, however, clarified that he did not meet with the Ukrainian officials who were also present at the White House on Thursday.
His comments are expected to heighten concerns among European countries that Washington could be moving closer to Moscow’s position and potentially pressure Ukraine into accepting an unfavourable agreement to end Russia’s invasion.
NATO member states are also closely monitoring Trump’s position, particularly amid concerns that he could reduce US military presence in Europe and consider Russia’s demands for limiting American influence on the continent.
The US President had previously promised to end the Russia-Ukraine war within 24 hours of assuming office in January 2025. However, several peace proposals and assurances he has made since then have yet to produce a lasting agreement.
Meanwhile, Melania Trump had earlier called for a more lasting ceasefire in Ukraine while hosting a rare meeting involving officials from both countries at the White House.
Addressing the gathering, the First Lady urged both sides to build on their shared concern for civilians affected by the conflict and work towards an agreement that would go beyond a temporary ceasefire.
She expressed hope that their discussions could create a more sustainable path towards peace.
Trump also suggested that the meeting, alongside a six-day localised ceasefire in the Ukrainian city of Oleshky announced by Melania last month, could serve as a foundation for a broader peace agreement.
