The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 43,980 capsules of tramadol hidden inside two large vehicle fuel tanks in what the agency described as a highly sophisticated drug-smuggling operation.
In a statement posted on X on Sunday, the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, said the suspect allegedly travelled to Onitsha to acquire the fuel tanks, not for automotive use or resale, but to conceal and transport illegal drugs.
Babafemi explained that the suspect managed to move the concealed consignment through multiple security checkpoints from Anambra State before being apprehended by NDLEA operatives in the Wukari area of Taraba State.

According to the agency, the tramadol capsules were carefully packed inside the fuel tanks to evade detection during transit.
The statement read in part: “A drug trafficker travelled to Onitsha, Anambra State, to purchase the two large vehicle fuel tanks, not for sale or personal use, but specifically to conceal illicit substances.
“With 43,980 capsules of tramadol expertly hidden inside the tanks, he successfully passed through several security checks from Anambra to Wukari in Taraba State before NDLEA officers intercepted and exposed the operation.
“The video captures the moment the concealment was uncovered, bringing the trafficking scheme to an abrupt end.”
