Norway secured a stunning 2-1 victory over Brazil in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16, with striker Erling Haaland scoring twice to send the Scandinavian side into the quarterfinals.
Haaland delivered a match-winning performance, taking his tally to seven goals at the tournament and further strengthening his position among the competition’s leading scorers. Brazil fought back with a goal of their own but were unable to prevent a shock elimination.
The result marks Norway’s progression to the World Cup quarterfinals, where they will continue their remarkable campaign.
For Brazil, the defeat ends an impressive run of reaching at least the quarterfinals at every World Cup since 1994. It is the first time the five-time world champions have failed to make the last eight since their Round of 16 exit at the 1990 FIFA World Cup. The loss also represents one of the biggest upsets of the 2026 tournament so far, as Norway eliminated one of the pre-tournament favourites to keep their World Cup dream alive.
