Queen Elizabeth Honors Idris Elba and David Oyelowo With OBE
Hollywood actors, Idris Elba and David Oyelowo have been honoured by Queen Elizabeth II with both receiving the Order Of The British Empire (OBE) for their services in the film industry.
Elba had been excellent on the big screen in 2015. The British actor got three SAG nominations a few weeks ago and later received two Golden Globe nominations, one for the Best Supporting Actor category in a motion picture ‘Beast Of No Nation’ and then his second for Best Actor in a TV mini-series in BBC’s ‘Luther’.
Oyelowo, who recently played Martin Luther King Jr. in the film ‘Selma’ was recognized for his outstanding performance in the movie.
Speaking on the award by the queen, Oyelowo said: “To be honored by the Queen in this way having been aided by her son’s charity feels like a beautiful full-circle moment.” Elba, on his part, said, “Awards and honors come in all shapes and sizes and all as significant as the other, but this is beyond special as it comes from Queen and country, and I couldn’t be more proud for receiving this right now. What a year. On me head son.”
