HOUSE OF REPS MOVE TO CREATE LEGAL FRAME WORK FOR GENDER PARITY.
House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to provide legal framework for gender parity, women socio- economic and political empowerment, as well as to partner with the National Assembly to ensure the passage of Gender and Equality opportunities bill.
The house urged the government to rescue the missing Dapchi school girls and the remaining Chibok girls and generally provide security for all school children and women in Nigeria.
This emanated from a motion sponsored by Hon. Stella Ngwu, (PDP Enugu State), on Wednesday during plenary.
Hon. Ngwu in her lead debate noted that Nigeria women play vital roles in nation building, politics, education, businesses and most importantly in families, adding that Nigeria women face serious socio economic challenges that are life threatening and become poorer more than Nigerian men who dominates every important sector of the economy.

She further noted that the achievements, prospects or challenges of this country have great bearing on the women.
Other lawmakers in their contributions stressed on the need to have a law for gender parity noting that women are making progress in reverse.
The house subsequently mandated its committee on Women Affairs and social Development to ensure compliance. END.
