A second half goal from Michael Egbeta powered a gusty nine-man Sunshine Stars side to a 1-0 win over Kwara United in a week 13 Nigeria Professional Football League contest at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure, on Sunday.

Egebta’s finish from a superb Kolade Adeniji’s low across into the area at the hour mark ended a six match winless run for the Akure Landlords, but coach Kabiru Dogo had his entire team to thank for their resolute display after the expulsion of Ajibola Otegbeye and Sunday Abe.

In an eventful opening five minutes Kehinde Adeyemi found a bit of space and time to convert from a well floated Egbeta’s corner kick, but his tame header dropped out wide before Ayo Ojo made a calm save from a threatening United’s move at the other end.

In the 26, Oremade Olawale denied Dayo Ojo with a decent save from goalmouth during and Chigozie Obasi drew another save from the goalkeeper after latching to a ball from range five minutes before the interval.

The day’s biggest dramas started ensuing two minutes after the restart as both Andrew Ikefe of Kwara United and Otegbeye were shown a straight red card by the referee for alleged antics.

Nonetheless in the 60′ Egbeta broke the deadlock with a perfect touch just inside the area to a well worked out Adeniji’s low cross to send a wave of excitement across the stands.

However the fans have barely finished celebrating the breakthrough goal when captain, Abe was sent off for a second bookable offense following challenge a with an opponent and alleged dissent.

With the numerical disadvntge and just a little less than 30 minutes to play, the home side dug deep into their resolve to held on for the win and moved up to 6th on the log with 16 points ahead if match day 14 meeting with Lobi Stars in Markurdi.
