CRIME: EFCC RESCUES AN ALLEGED KIDNAPPED YAHOO APPRENTICE IN ABUJA

Read Time:2 Minute, 6 Second

On Friday, July 1, 2022, agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, freed Destiny Peter, a 17-year-old yahoo-yahoo apprentice who was allegedly kidnapped from an apartment in Mpape, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Peter had contacted the EFCC on July 1, 2022, via the organization’s official Twitter account, @officialEFCC, and explained how some yahoo-yahoo lads had abducted him and planned to use him for rituals.

He was instructed to use the Google Location App on his Android phone to provide a screenshot of his location to the Commission.

Peter tweeted a number of times, including:

“Good afternoon, sir. I contacted the EFCC number and laid some complaints about some Yahoo lads planning to use me for ritual, and he said I needed to give a screenshot of the place.

“The house is in Mpape, but don’t know the exact place so check google map and save the screenshot.

“I’m in the bathroom because I don’t want his boys to know what I’m doing.

“My name is Destiny Peter and the place is Mpape. I don’t know the actual place but I used google maps and the people in the house now are his boys. Hold on let me try and do a video, sir”

The EFCC swiftly dispatched a team of investigators to the area in response to the twitter warning in order to come to his rescue, and they discovered him imprisoned in a room. They saved him and detained the syndicate’s head, 20-year-old Jamilu Aliyu, also known as Jamilu Smith, as well as Aboaba David, a 16-year-old, Isaac Johnson, an 18-year-old, Miracle Moses, a 20-year-old cook, and Miracle Moses, a hairstylist.

Peter claimed during questioning that Jamilu Smith, the gang’s leader, had threatened him. He added that Smith had threatened to have him slaughtered for rituals if he could not cash out (defraud) people within two weeks.

During questioning, David claimed Smith was their leader and had enlisted their help in his search for possible online dating scam victims. Smith was identified as their commander by all the other suspects.

Smith refuted Peter’s assertion that he had been abducted. He said that Peter’s brother had brought him to him voluntarily in order to teach him how to trade in gift cards and bitcoin.

All of the suspects are being held by the EFCC for additional investigation; after the investigation is complete, charges will be brought in court.
