Odienyefa Ogbolosingha, a former state house of assembly candidate for the People’s Democratic Party in Bayelsa State, was assassinated by some gunmen who are thought to be assassins.

According to information received, on Friday, robbers broke into the home of Ogbolosingha, 48, on Yenagoa’s Imiringi Road and fatally shot him.

The victim, a PDP candidate for the state Houses of Assembly in 2023, was the younger brother of the late Michael Ogbolosingha, a former chairman of the Yenagoa Local Government Council.

He was a member of the Okordia-Zarama Cluster Development Board and was originally from the Kalaba community in the Yenagoa LGA.

According to a community source who asked to remain anonymous, Ogbolosingha’s attackers had sent him a note a couple of weeks prior instructing him and a contractor not to carry out a road project under the cluster board.

“About two weeks ago, they sent him a telegram cautioning him and a contractor from starting a road project by the cluster board in the community. But he sublease the position. He has served on the board for a while.

The source stated, “Now, yesterday (Friday), they shot him dead at his house at Imiringi Road, Yenagoa.

The spokesman for the Bayelsa Police Command, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident.

He said, “Police operatives responded to a distress call at about 1400hours on Friday 22 July 2022 that armed men shot one Odeinyefa Ogbolosingha at his residence at Imiringi Road, Yenagoa.

“The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, for treatment, but was confirmed dead. Photograph and other evidence were taken at the scene. Investigation has commenced.”
