The Edo State Police Command on Tuesday said it had rescued three kidnapped victims in the state.

According to a statement issued by the Deputy Police Public Relations Office, Jennifer Iwegbu, the victims were rescued in Akoko-Edo on Monday.

“In continuation of its fight to curtail and rid the state of the menace of kidnapping and other related vices, the Edo State Police Command through its Divisional Headquarters Ibillo, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, on 01/08/2022 at about 07:00hrs rescued some kidnapped victims,” according to the statement.

“This was in response to genuine information provided by good Nigerians that hoodlums dressed in Army camouflage ambushed two vehicles along the Ibillo/Ikiran-Ore Road, emerged from the bush, and snatched six people from the vehicles into the bush.”

“Upon receiving the information, the Divisional Police Officer, Ibillo, mobilized and swung into action instantly in coordination with the military and vigilantes.”

“Three of the kidnapped victims, Alice Audu (70), Ruth Isiah (65), and Dejor Isiaka (50), were freed unharmed and reunited with their families as a consequence of the extensive bush combing.” Rescue efforts are still ongoing, as are efforts to neutralize or arrest the fleeing culprits.

“To that end, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Abutu Yaro, urges the public to be watchful and report any unusual person(s) or movement in their areas to the police.”

“He also reaffirms his commitment to making Edo State safe and free of crime, and anyone who attempts to disrupt the state’s calm would face stiff pushback.”

“He asked the good people of Edo State to continue to cooperate with the police by providing timely and credible information.”
