BREAKING: CHELSEA COMPLETE JOAO FELIX’S LOAN SIGNING FROM ATLETICO MADRID
Chelsea have completed the signing of Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid.
The Blues have beaten Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal to the signing of the Portugal forward, with neither side willing to pay the €11m (£9.69m) loan fee.
Felix made the trip to London on Tuesday for his medical before joining Chelsea for the remainder of the campaign.
The 23-year-old joins Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, and Andrey Santos as Chelsea’s fourth new recruits this month.
Felix told the club’s official website, ‘Chelsea is one of the great teams in the world and I hope to help the team reach their objectives, so I am very, very happy to be here and very excited to play at Stamford Bridge.”
The loan agreement does not include a buy option, and Felix has also committed to a one-year extension with Madrid, so it is expected that he will return to Spain after his spell at Stamford Bridge is through.
The forward has played 14 LaLiga games for Atletico this season, scoring four times and registering three assists.
His performances during the World Cup – contributing one goal and two assists – suggest there is more to come from a player who was once so highly touted.
