FIBA RANKING: D’TIGERS REMAIN NO. 1 IN AFRICA, NOW WORLD 19TH

Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, maintained their place as the number 1 team in Africa and the 19th in the world in the latest FIBA World rankings despite missing out on the FIBA World Cup.

D’Tigers competed in the just finished window of the African World Cup qualifiers in Luanda, where they won two games, defeating Guinea and Ivory Coast, before dropping the last match against Angola and losing the qualification spot to Cape Verde.

According to the latest ranking published on FIBA website, D’Tigers are the top-playing basketball country in Africa and 19th in the World with 461.4 points.

With 448.6 points, Tunisia is rated second in Africa and 21st globally, while Senegal is third in Africa but 37th globally. The fourth-best country in Africa is Angola, yet it ranks 41 globally.

Ivory Coast is now ranked fifth in Africa and 42 globally, having also qualified for the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Spain are rated the best basketball playing nation in the world with 758 points ahead of the US, who sit second. Australia, Argentina and France are third, fourth and fifth respectively on the globe.
