Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper, Jesús Owono has promised to stop Nigerian forward, Victor Osimhen when both teams clash in the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday (today).

In addition, Owono pledged to stop Osimhen’s teammates, Ahmed Musa, Terem Moffi, Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, and Kelechi Iheanacho.

Group A comprises both teams and the host country, Ivory Coast. With ten goals more than Senegal’s Sadio Mane, who finished with five, Osimhen led all scorers in the 2023 AFCON qualification campaign.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Owono said, “I will do my best to stop Victor Osimhen and the other Super Eagles players in order to get a positive result in the first match.

“We were unknown in the last AFCON, and we did a great job. For this AFCON, the teams have more information about us. We train a lot, and we have prepared for the ramble.”

The Equatoguinean goalkeeper has the confidence of his coach, Juan Obiang, who describes him as a “modern goalkeeper.” His charisma is evident on the field. I’m a big fan of his kicker.

Nigeria made its tournament debut in 1963 and has since participated in 20 tournaments; it has competed in the finals of 1976, 1978, 1980, 1982, 1984, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1994, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2013, 2019, and 2021.

Prior to this Sunday’s match, the Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea are motivated by their remarkable track record of making it to the last eight every time they compete in the regional showcase.
