According to Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), the agency has rescued a pregnant woman who had been abused by her husband in the Mushin area of the state.

In a statement, Vivour-Adeniyi claimed that a mandated reporter called the agency in distress on Wednesday with information on a suspected incidence of domestic abuse.

“Following the recent report of a seven-month pregnant woman’s death due to domestic violence, the agency received another distress call from a mandated reporter concerning another alleged domestic violence case involving a pregnant woman and her husband,” she said.

“It was alleged that the expectant mother was physically assaulted by her partner, who then locked her in their Mushin apartment.”

“The alleged assault reportedly resulted in the pregnant woman losing consciousness, prompting neighbors to intervene and rush her to the hospital for medical attention.”

According to Vivour-Adeniyi, the agency called the police, which resulted in the arrest of the alleged offender.

“DSVA immediately contacted the Lagos State Police Command’s Rapid Response Squad, and police officers from the Mushin police station were immediately dispatched to the scene,” she said. “The suspect has been apprehended, while the survivor remains unconscious.”

She reiterated the agency’s commitment to supporting survivors and emphasized the state’s zero-tolerance policy against domestic abuse.

“While highlighting the potential dangers and negative ripple effects of domestic violence on survivors and society at large, we reiterate that the state government remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of these heinous crimes are held accountable,” Vivour-Adeniyi stated.

“We appreciate the neighbors who called for help and contacted the agency.”

The head of DSVA advised victims of domestic abuse to come forward and ask for assistance.

“Report promptly to authorities like the DSVA, either through the toll-free hotline 08000 333 333 or by visiting Novel House, Plot 3, Otunba Jobi Fele Way, Central Business District, Alausa, Ikeja,” she said.
