Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged Nigerians to stop saying bad things about the country but instead pray for the nation and Leadership.
The Governor made the statement on Friday, at an Eid-IL-Fitr Celebration organised by the First Family held at the Lagos House, Ikeja.
The Governor, who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, said that it is important that Nigerians should pray for thee country and it’s leadership so the nation can know peace.
The Governor said, “It is important for us not to talk ill of our country but to pray for our country. What is in our hearts like our lecturer has said, ‘Allah will not change it until we change our hearts. So, if we continue to curse our country and say bad things about it, it means that’s what we want. That’s why it is important that we pray for our country and leadership in order to experience peace”.
He also noted that it is important that Muslims should know what to do with their children, by knowing what they are doing and also guiding them right.
He advised parents to train their children well on how to respect their elders and not speaking ill of the country and the leaders.
He, therefore, prayed for the peace of Almighty Allah to rest on Nigeria, the Leaders, Lagos State and the citizenry.
Earlier in her welcome address, the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Mrs. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu reminds everyone of the profound wisdom encapsulated in the theme for this year’s celebration which is, “ALLAH WILL NOT CHANGE THE WAY OF A PEOPLE UNTIL THEY CHANGE WHAT IS IN THEIR HEART” extracted from Quran 13:11.
She, emphasized that everyone should not be wasteful while charging Nigerians to have positive mindset because it will change the nation.
Speaking further, the first lady stated that the essence of Ramadan extends beyond personal parity but beckons us to contemplate the state of our community and society.
She said, “The last 30 days of Ramadan, was a period of self-denial of food and a season of personal discipline in total submission to Almighty Allah’s commandments.”
“Today, as we celebrate the end of the Holy month of Ramadan, we must heed the message of this verse and recognize our collective responsibility to instigate positive change.”
“Each and everyone of you is an ambassador in your community, you are to show good leadership. Let us reject bigotry, prejudice in all its forms and work towards making a more inclusive society where everyone feels valued and loved,” she added.
While giving his lecture, titled: “Allah will not change the way of a people until they change what is in their heart”, Justice Abdulrraheem Ahmada Sayi Khadi, of the Sharia Court of Appeal Kwara State, urged all muslim faithfuls to be righteous and fair as it is a commandment of ALLAH
He further reminded them that regardless of who they are, Allah’s policy never changes, while citing a verse in the Quran, Justice Khadi called on everyone to be sensitive and conscious to the fact that Almighty Allah can never be taken for granted.
He said, “Allah detest that he be taken for granted. He has always been prepared for all our offences. Allah hates that his erring servant is remorseless.
The Nigerian Situation in the contemporary time is such that can never be laid on our leadership. It is high time for us all to begin to see these things as a collective responsibility.”
He however, reminded all Muslims that Allah will never negotiate with his servants because he has always wanted good things for them noting that Allah is not a magician.
Justice Khadi also added that as a Muslim, you should be a source of benefit of peace, joy, happiness and love to persons around you as he called on the department of the government that is responsible for particularly designing and mobilizing public orientation to drive citizens from official compliments.
“Our servitude to Allah as a muslim, is like a bird that must necessarily fly with its two wings but neither of the two wings wil never suffice.
If you are a Muslim, you owe it to devote yourself to Allah and give him true worship,” he said.
