JUST IN: AGAIN, UNITED AIRLINES MAKES EMERGENCY LANDING IN NEWARK
A United Airlines flight carrying about 200 passengers has been forced to make an emergency landing at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey after a fault suspected to be mechanical occurred mid-flight.
This is coming barely a month after another aircraft belonging to the airline, a Boeing 787-8 outbound from Lagos to Washington Dulles, was involved in an incident causing it to make an air return to Lagos.
Having established a return track to Lagos, PUNCH Online gathered that the aircraft crew maintained the emergency transponder code 7700 (Emergency signal) with the control tower till it landed.
The latest development also involved a Boeing 757 which took off just before 6 a.m. from Newark Airport and was flying toward Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, according to flight tracking data.
About one hour into the flight, the pilots turned the plane around and returned to Newark, a spokesperson for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Fox News.
The spokesperson for the airline in a statement, said that there were 176 passengers and six crew on board the flight when a potential mechanical issue occurred.
“United flight 1544 to Las Vegas returned to Newark Liberty International Airport to address a possible mechanical issue. The flight landed safely, and all passengers deplaned normally at the gate.”
The airline did not immediately specify what kind of mechanical issue is believed to have occurred.
