EX-PETROLEUM MINISTER, JIBRIL AMINU PASSES AWAY AT 85

Professor Jibril Aminu, former Minister of Education and Petroleum, has passed away at the age of 85.
He died on Wednesday in Abuja after a prolonged illness.
Professor Aminu notably served as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States between 1999 and 2003.
He later became a senator, representing Adamawa Central Senatorial District from 2003 to 2011.

A respected heart specialist (cardiologist), Professor Aminu got his first medical degree from the University of Ibadan in 1965.
He later earned a PhD in medicine from the Royal Post-Graduate Medical School in London in 1972.
His funeral prayer is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. today at the Abuja National Mosque. His remains will be flown to Yola and then to Song Local Government Area, Adamawa State, for burial.
He is survived by two wives and nine children.
