The Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed that the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos will host both the men’s and women’s finals of the 2025 President Federation Cup on Saturday, June 28 — marking the second consecutive year the historic ground will stage the showpiece events.
In the men’s final, giant-killing Abakaliki FC of Ebonyi will face off against Kwara United of Ilorin, with both teams making their maiden appearance in the competition’s final. The women’s final will see defending champions Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt take on Nasarawa Amazons of Lafia in a high-stakes clash reminiscent of their 2019 encounter.
Abakaliki FC’s fairytale run to the final has captured the imagination of fans nationwide. Despite being a bottom-ranked side in the Nigeria National League, they have stunned several Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) teams on their way to Lagos. Their journey began with a penalty shoot-out win over Katsina United in the round of 32, followed by a stunning 2-0 upset of nine-time NPFL champions Enyimba. In the quarter-finals, they edged Nasarawa United on penalties after a 1-1 draw and sealed their spot in the final with a dramatic 5-4 shoot-out victory over Ikorodu City, after a goalless semi-final clash in Bwari.
Kwara United also carved their name into the history books by reaching their first-ever Federation Cup final, narrowly defeating six-time champions Rangers International 1-0 in their semi-final match at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
On the women’s side, Rivers Angels are aiming to retain their crown against two-time champions Nasarawa Amazons, who return to the final with momentum on their side. The Lafia-based side impressed in the 2025 NWFL Premiership Super Six playoff, finishing second, just one point behind Bayelsa Queens. Notably, they defeated Rivers Angels 2-1 in a key clash during the playoff, setting the stage for a tense and highly anticipated rematch in the final.
With both finals featuring compelling narratives of ambition, revenge, and underdog triumphs, the 2025 President Federation Cup finale promises a memorable day for Nigerian football.
