NRC ASSURES PUBLIC OF SAFETY ON WARRI-ITAKPE RAIL LINE, DISMISSES VIRAL SECURITY ALERT

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has assured the public that train services on the Warri-Itakpe rail corridor remain safe, operational, and fully secure, dismissing viral social media claims warning against travel on the route.
In a statement issued on Monday in Lagos, the NRC’s Acting Deputy Director of Public Relations, Mr. Callistus Unyimadu, addressed a circulating video and message that suggested passengers cancel travel plans due to alleged safety concerns. The video reportedly showed removed rail clips and raised alarm over potential sabotage.
Unyimadu described the claims as “misleading and unfounded,” clarifying that the incident in question — involving the temporary removal of some rail clips at a specific section of the line — had been promptly detected during a routine inspection and rectified immediately by NRC’s maintenance team.
“All necessary safety and operational protocols were strictly followed to ensure no threat was posed to passengers or train operations. The Warri-Itakpe train has since passed through the affected section without any incident, confirming the safety of the corridor,” he stated.
He reaffirmed NRC’s commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards, noting that both rail tracks and rolling stock are under constant surveillance. According to him, NRC personnel are fully equipped to respond swiftly to any emerging issues.
Unyimadu urged the public to disregard the social media message, cautioning that attempts to spread fear and discredit the railway system undermine ongoing efforts to develop the transport sector.
“Train services on the Warri-Itakpe corridor and all other NRC routes remain safe, reliable, and fully operational. For accurate information and travel advisories, passengers should only rely on verified NRC communication channels,” he added.
