Protesters under the banner of “End Bad Governance” took to the streets of Ikeja, Lagos, on Thursday to voice their dissatisfaction with the state of the nation as Nigeria marks Democracy Day.

At the protest ground, our correspondent observed the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, engaging directly with the demonstrators.

Earlier, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer had posted a video on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, showing armed personnel deployed to the area and assuring the public of maximum protection for all protesters.

He wrote, “Democracy Day celebrants and protesters at Ikeja Underbridge…

“Adequate security on the ground for celebrants and protesters alike.

No cause for alarm. Your safety and security remain our priority. #LagosPoliceNG”

Recall that HOTJIST in an earlier report revealed that the Police Command reached an agreement with 15 Civil Society Organisations that Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota will serve as the only approved protest venue for citizens participating in the protest in Lagos.
