Personnel of the FCT Police Command on Monday, at roughly 10:30 pm, thwarted an attempted theft in the Zone E Extension locality of Apo Resettlement, Abuja.

The representative of the Police command, SP Josephine Adeh, stated: ‘In response to a distress call obtained from a commercial motorcycle operator in Apo Resettlement, indicating intense gunfire in the vicinity, the Divisional Police Officer of Apo Division, CSP Uchenna Igwebuike, promptly dispatched his Ambush and Surveillance Teams to the location.

The assailants confronted the law enforcement unit in an intense firearm conflict.

“In a rapid strategic reaction, an additional contingent headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing Operations, DCP Isyaku Sharu, reached the location.

The personnel countered with enhanced firepower, compelling the aggressors to retreat into the adjacent hills.

“A collaborative manhunt initiative comprising law enforcement agents and regional vigilantes is presently in progress to locate and detain the fleeing culprits.

“During the operation, three persons were rescued with varying degrees of injuries inflicted by the attackers.

“A light green Toyota Corolla with registration number GWA 620 AU, belonging to one of the victims, was recovered at the scene.

“All injured persons were immediately evacuated to Sahad Hospital, Apo Resettlement, for emergency medical care. Regrettably, one of the individuals ultimately succumbed to his wounds and was declared deceased by healthcare professionals.

“His remains have been placed in the hospital mortuary.

“The Police Commissioner, CP Ajao Adewale, offers his sincere sympathies to the family of the deceased and assures residents that the Command is entirely dedicated to safeguarding lives and property throughout the Territory.

“The CP also appeals to members of the public, especially residents of communities around Apo Resettlement and its environs, to report anyone seen with gunshot wounds or suspicious injuries to the nearest police station or via any of the Command’s emergency numbers: 08032003913 or 08028940883.

‘He urged the public to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and continue supporting the Police in their fight against crime and criminality.”
