JUST IN: 53 SUSPECTS ARRESTED OVER DEADLY ATTACKS IN BENUE AND PLATEAU STATES – IGP

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has announced the arrest of 53 suspects in connection with the recent wave of violent attacks in Benue and Plateau states, which have claimed dozens of lives and displaced several residents.

 

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, Egbetokun condemned the June 13 massacre in Yelewata community, Benue State, describing it as a “coordinated attack of terror.”

 

He disclosed that 26 suspects were apprehended for their alleged roles in the Yelewata killings, while 22 others were arrested in connection with similar attacks in Plateau State. An additional five suspects were also arrested in Benue over a separate incident.

 

According to the IGP, 47 people were killed and 27 others injured in the Yelewata attack. Security forces also recovered two general-purpose machine guns and eight AK-47 rifles used in the assault.

 

Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have vowed to ensure justice for the victims.
