ONDO JUDICIARY WORKERS SUSPEND STRIKE AFTER MEETING WITH GOVERNOR AIYEDATIWA
By Aishat Momoh. O.
Judiciary workers in Ondo State under the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) have suspended their indefinite strike following a meeting with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa aimed at resolving the dispute.
The strike, which began on June 13, 2025, was in protest against the state government’s alleged failure to implement aspects of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on financial autonomy for the judiciary.
After discussions with the union leadership, Governor Aiyedatiwa directed the establishment of a committee to develop modalities for releasing funds to the state judiciary in accordance with the MoU. The committee will be chaired by the Commissioner for Finance, Omowunmi Isaac, and will include JUSUN representatives and key government officials.
JUSUN Chairman in the state, Oluwafemi Afolabi, led the union’s delegation to the meeting and presented the workers’ demands. He commended the governor for his efforts in strengthening the judiciary, especially the recent increase in the number of judges in the State High Courts.
The suspension of the strike is expected to restore normal judicial activities across the state.
