ROLAYO SHOLOTAN CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF CAPTURING MEMORIES
By Aishat Momoh. O.
Veteran Nigerian photographer Rolayo Sholotan has marked a major career milestone ’25 years behind the lens’ recounting a journey that began with humble beginnings and grew into an inspiring legacy.
In an emotional reflection shared on Friday, Sholotan narrated how his foray into photography began exactly 25 years ago with an Exakta camera and just one hour of training from local studio apprentices. Determined and undeterred, he announced his new profession to friends at Christ Chapel International Churches in Ashi, Ibadan, where he began capturing portraits for a few naira.
“I made mistakes many of them but I learned quickly,” he wrote, reminiscing about his early days spent browsing photography tips at cyber cafés. His passion and commitment soon paid off, and by December of that same year, he had successfully photographed his first wedding, an event that sparked a steady stream of referrals.
Reflecting on his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) experience, Sholotan described how he became his own boss while serving in Eastern Nigeria. Despite a meagre monthly allowance of N7,500, he stayed financially disciplined and focused on building his craft.
Over the decades, photography opened doors beyond borders, bringing him into close contact with clients whose relationships often grew into lasting friendships. “There is nothing more rewarding than when a client relationship evolves beyond a transaction into a lasting friendship,” he shared.

Sholotan expressed deep gratitude to his family, late parents, pastors, clients, and every staff member who has worked with his company, Shollots Studios. “Thank you for being part of this story… I do not take your support, patronage, or friendship for granted,” he said.
Today, the name Rolayo Sholotan is synonymous with excellence in photography, and his 25-year milestone stands as a testament to resilience, passion, and the power of community support.
