ANTI-TINUBU COALITION WILL FAIL, SAYS SANWO-OLU AS HE CONDEMNS POLITICAL DISTRACTIONS

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has dismissed attempts by opposition figures to form a coalition aimed at challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election, declaring the effort as destined to fail.
Sanwo-Olu expressed confidence in the President’s reform-driven leadership and insisted that Nigerians will stand by him to ensure that the benefits of his economic and governance reforms are fully realised.
He described the emerging coalition—reportedly anchored on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—as a distraction unworthy of attention.
“Nigerians will never go back to Egypt,” Sanwo-Olu told journalists and political stakeholders during a gathering in Lagos.
He further stated, “The target is to distract the Commander-in-Chief and derail the social and economic gains that we can see and feel, but President Tinubu knows the game and will never fall for their bait.”
The coalition, said to be led by notable political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Senate President David Mark, ex-Minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi, and former governors Nasir el-Rufai (Kaduna) and Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), has been criticised by Sanwo-Olu and others as a collective of discontented politicians.
However, its proponents view it as a credible platform for political reorganisation.
Highlighting Tinubu’s governance track record, Sanwo-Olu pointed to ongoing reforms and policy successes that, in his view, have started to yield results.
These include exchange rate stabilisation, the student loan initiative, infrastructural development, increased state revenues post-subsidy removal, tax restructuring, a boost in oil output, and discussions around a new national minimum wage.
“President Tinubu is not only a builder of men but a visionary leader whose impact is evident across the nation,” Sanwo-Olu said.
When asked whether the President and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are worried about the ADC-led coalition, the Governor responded: “No one should be concerned or distracted by what ADC or any other group is attempting to orchestrate. The truth is clear, the people can see the difference, and history is on his side.”
Presidential aides have also weighed in, labelling the coalition as “a gathering of desperados” and “internally displaced politicians” driven more by personal grievances than by any coherent ideology.
“They have nothing but bitterness to offer; they are bound together by their illogical resentment against President Tinubu, not by any edifying ideology. They will run out of steam,” Sanwo-Olu said.
Offering a word of counsel to the President, the Governor added: “Simple. The President should stay the course. Millions of well-meaning Nigerians across party lines and compatriots, who understand what it takes to govern the most populous black nation on earth and revive a troubled economy, are behind him and trust his leadership.”
“We know how far we’ve come under President Tinubu’s leadership. The focus should remain on delivering results, deepening reforms, and building a stronger Nigeria. Any attempt to shake that foundation will be futile,” he added.
In the face of mounting rhetoric from opposition groups, Sanwo-Olu urged Nigerians to remain calm, focused, and confident in the direction of the Tinubu administration.
