The Plateau State Police Command has arraigned twenty suspects before the State High Court over their alleged involvement in the brutal killing of twelve persons during a mob attack in Mangun, Mangu Local Government Area.

The defendants are facing a four-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, causing grievous bodily harm, and culpable homicide, in violation of the Plateau State Penal Code Law of 2017.

Prosecuting counsel, Samuel Idowu Ikutanwa, who heads the police legal department in the state, told the court presided over by Justice Boniface Ingyou that the accused conspired to commit the crimes and were armed with firearms, cutlasses, machetes, and petrol.

Ikutanwa alleged that the mob assaulted twenty-one victims, inflicted varying degrees of injuries, and ultimately set an 18-seater bus ablaze—resulting in the death of twelve occupants.

All twenty suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges during Thursday’s proceedings.

Following the arraignment, the prosecution sought an adjournment to allow for proper case management. Although lead defense counsel, Garuba Pwul (SAN), did not oppose the request, he attempted to move a bail application which the court declined to hear, citing the late service of the motion on the prosecution.

Justice Ingyou subsequently adjourned the case to October 13, 2025, for a case management conference and ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Jos Custodial Centre.
