TINUBU APPOINTS GOVERNING COUNCIL, PRINCIPAL OFFICERS FOR NEW FEDERAL UNIVERSITY IN OGONILAND

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of the Governing Council and principal officers for the newly established Federal University of Environment and Technology, Koroma/Saakpenwa, Ogoni, in Rivers State.

The appointments were announced on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Prof. Don Mon Baridam, a management expert and former lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, has been named the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council. He will be joined by Prof. Chinedu Mmom, also from the University of Port Harcourt and a former Rivers State Commissioner for Education, who has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor. Both appointees hail from the South-South region.

Other members of the Governing Council include Mr. Emmanuel Onoja (North Central), Mr. Hamid Adekunle (South-West), Prof. Chima Oji (South-East), and Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji Lamda (North-West).

The statement added that Dr. Mpigi Monday Douglas (South-South) has been appointed as Registrar, Zoryii Josco Nwaimanie (North Central) as Bursar, and Dr. Saghanen Ntogo G. B. (South-South) as Librarian.

According to the Presidency, the new university will admit its first batch of students in September 2025. President Tinubu had earlier signed the bill establishing the institution into law on February 3, 2025.
