The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the disappearance of a newborn baby from a health centre in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
Tension gripped the health facility on Monday morning when nurses discovered that a baby delivered on Sunday evening had mysteriously vanished. The unsettling incident sparked confusion among medical staff, the baby’s mother, and nearby traders.
A source at the centre said, “It was when the nurses on duty wanted to cater to the baby in the morning that it was discovered the child was nowhere to be found.”
Another witness described the atmosphere as chaotic, noting that the baby’s disappearance left everyone, including health workers and market women, in a state of disbelief.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, stated that the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation.
“The CP has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a detailed probe and ensure the recovery of the baby,” Abutu said.
He added that four suspects have already been arrested and are currently assisting police with credible information that could lead to the resolution of the case.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have pledged to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to recover the missing child and bring those responsible to justice.
