The Apo Division of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has commended the FCT Administration (FCTA) Taskforce for demolishing suspected criminal hideouts in the Apo Cadastral Zone District of Abuja.

Police officers who visited the site on Thursday, though declining to speak officially, noted that the demolition would bring relief to residents.

Confirming the move, the Director of Development Control at the FCTA, Mukhtar Galadima, said intelligence reports identified Cadastral Zone E27, Apo Resettlement, as a hub for criminal activities in the area.

“This is one of the notorious dark spots in the city. There have been instances of killings here. This time, we are conducting a total clearance and will fence the location to prevent reoccupation,” Galadima stated.

He added that the administration has devised a new strategy to deny miscreants access to green areas and empty plots, though details were withheld for security reasons.

Speaking on behalf of the Director of the FCT Security Department, Adamu Gwary, Dr. Peter Olumuji revealed that the enclave had been linked to armed robbery, housebreaking, and illicit drug peddling.

“Just a few weeks ago, over 50 armed robbers attempted to attack residents from here, but swift intervention by the police and sister agencies foiled the assault,” Olumuji said.

The demolition forms part of the ongoing citywide sanitation exercise aimed at eliminating criminal hideouts and improving security in the FCT.
