The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has reaffirmed its commitment to credible and sustainable wastewater management by responding to public outcry for a cleaner Lagos, sealing a Chicken Republic outlet at Agungi, Ajiran Road, and a public toilet at Idi Araba, opposite LUTH.

Both facilities were shut down for the deliberate discharge of raw sewage into public drains via a pumping machine, creating public nuisance, causing environmental pollution, and endangering lives.

According to the General Manager of the Agency, Engr. Adefemi Afolabi, the offenders “are in the habit of pumping their untreated sewage waters into the public drainage system with the use of a pumping machine, instead of engaging accredited sewage dislodgers to evacuate their septic tank.”

“This illegal act pollutes the environment and exposes the citizens to communicable diseases, through the discharge of untreated wastewater into drainage, roads and the lagoons,” he said.

Engr. Afolabi stressed that the State has zero tolerance for environmental pollution and degradation, urging residents to adopt proper wastewater management and hygiene practices to promote public health and environmental sustainability.

He noted that the Agency remains steadfast in its mission to maintain a clean and healthy environment for Lagosians and warned that “every act of environmental nuisance and pollution portends grave dangers to public health and will be met with appropriate sanctions and prosecution.”

The General Manager appealed to citizens to report any acts of environmental nuisance that could harm public health to the Agency via 08022022397, 07025332163, or its official social media platforms on Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and Facebook.
