The Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) on Thursday concluded another impactful edition of its Life Skills Economic Empowerment Programme (LEEP) — a four-week short-term training at Ibeju-Lekki — reaffirming the State Government’s dedication to grassroots empowerment and poverty reduction.

Leading the programme, the Honourable Commissioner for WAPA, Mrs. Bolaji Cecilia Dada, highlighted that the LEEP initiative has already recorded significant success across Lagos, having been recently held in Agbowa-Ikosi, Alagbado, and Lagos Island.

She explained that these targeted interventions are aimed at equipping vulnerable residents with practical, income-generating skills to improve their livelihoods and promote economic self-reliance.

Mrs. Dada commended Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s unwavering commitment to women’s empowerment and community development, adding that the State Government’s sustained investment in skills training remains a key driver of long-term socio-economic growth.

Recalling that the Ministry recently hosted the graduation of over 5,000 students from WAPA Skills Acquisition Centres across the State, she described it as a reflection of the administration’s holistic approach to tackling unemployment and enhancing living standards.

The Honourable Commissioner reiterated that the Ministry will continue to collaborate with communities, NGOs, and private stakeholders to deliver empowerment initiatives across Lagos State, ensuring inclusivity in the government’s developmental agenda.

She also urged the 250 beneficiaries from the Ibeju-Lekki batch, “Do not despise the days of your early beginning.”

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of WAPA, Mrs. Rianat Ajibike Onigbanjo, thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu for his consistent support to the Ministry and encouraged beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunities provided to enhance their vocational skills.

The event was attended by directors from the Ministry and representatives of King Alakodo of Akodo, Prince Sulu Kabiru Abiodun, among other dignitaries.
