ZAMFARA GOVERNOR REJECTS NEGOTIATIONS WITH BANDITS

BY OWOLABI OLUWADARA
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has reiterated his administration’s resolute position against engaging in negotiations with bandits, asserting that his government will never come to terms with those who instill terror in communities throughout the state.
The governor announced this during a visit on Thursday to communities recently victimized by bandits, where he expressed his sympathies to the victims and reaffirmed his dedication to reestablishing security and rehabilitating the affected regions.
Expressing condolences to the impacted communities, Lawal reiterated his commitment to enhancing security and restoring the affected areas.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, the governor toured Kagara, Dan Isa, and Kasuwar Daji in the Kauran Namoda Local Government Area.
He explained that the visit was part of a broader outreach to demonstrate solidarity with victims and assess the situation first-hand.
Addressing residents during the visit, Governor Lawal said, “Yesterday (Wednesday), I began a condolence tour to communities targeted by bandits.
As we were unable to finalize the visit, we continued today and arrived at three additional communities. I engaged with the residents and communicated the government’s assistance and encouragement.
Security continues to be the foremost priority of my administration. We are utilizing every available resource to safeguard lives and property throughout Zamfara.
“From the beginning of my term, I unequivocally stated: we will not engage in discussions with bandits. That stance remains firm and will not alter. These offenders have persistently demonstrated a lack of sincerity or contrition.
“I have also noted the inadequate condition of the roads leading to these communities. My administration will prioritize their restoration to enhance accessibility and foster local development,” the governor asserted.
The statement further emphasized that Lawal’s visits highlight his administration’s determination to tackle insecurity directly, while also addressing the infrastructural issues that exacerbate the vulnerability of rural communities.
