Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have rescued nine kidnapped victims, including women and children, during a successful ambush against terrorists between Sokoto and Zamfara States.
The Media Information Officer of OPFY, Captain David Adewusi, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the operation was carried out late Sunday night following credible intelligence on terrorists’ movements along a notorious crossing point on the Isa–Shinkafi–Kaura Namoda Road.
According to Adewusi, the troops, who had positioned themselves in ambush, came under threat when the terrorists attempted to use their captives as human shields.
“The troops responded methodically and decisively, resulting in the neutralisation of a handful of terrorists, while many others fled with gunshot wounds,” the statement read.
The rescued victims three adult females and six children were identified as residents of Garin Bature village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State. They were evacuated to the General Hospital, Shinkafi, for medical attention before being handed over to local officials for reunion with their families.
Items recovered at the scene include an AK-47 rifle with two magazines containing 20 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle, three mobile phones, and a pair of desert camouflage uniforms.
Adewusi reassured residents in the North West and parts of the North Central that OPFY will sustain aggressive operations until terrorism and banditry are completely eradicated. He also appealed for continued cooperation and timely information from the public to aid security operations.
