The Kogi State Police Command has detained a 23-year-old individual, Charity Williams, during a raid on a suspected criminal sanctuary at Oguda village, Okene, seizing firearms, ammunition, and over N2 million in cash.

According to a statement authored by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, on Thursday, the apprehension ensued following a tip-off that prompted operatives from the Okene Division to descend upon Yuwander Lodge, purported to be a criminal hideaway.

Aya stated, “Upon inspecting one of the rooms reserved by an individual named Christopher Christopher Kadiri, a woman identified as Charity Williams, aged 23 years, was apprehended, and the aforementioned items were recovered from the premises. ”

The recovered items include one homemade Beretta pistol, one homemade barrel gun, six rounds of 9mm live ammunition, illicit drugs, an axe, four mobile phones, and the amount of N2,047,300.

The police indicated that the primary suspect, recognized as Kadiri, evaded capture prior to the raid but assured that endeavors are ongoing to locate him.

In a related incident, operatives from the Ofu Division seized a homemade barrel gun, a machete, and a Tecno mobile phone in Ogbakpedo village along the Itobe–Ayingba route.

This recovery was prompted by intelligence indicating the presence of suspected kidnappers in the vicinity, who fled upon the arrival of law enforcement.

The statement further noted, “Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the outstanding suspect, while investigations are in progress. ”

Commending the officers, the Commissioner of Police, Miller G. Dantawaye, characterized the arrests and recoveries as evidence of the command’s commitment to combating crime within the state.

Aya quoted him as stating that the CP “praised the officers for their commitment to their duties and reiterated his steadfast determination to counter criminal activities in the state. ”

Williams’ arrest underscores a concerning trend where female partners and associates of suspected criminals become entangled in illicit endeavors, whether through direct involvement or by harboring fugitives.

Security analysts caution that women are increasingly utilized to acquire accommodations, transport funds, or mask operations to elude police scrutiny.

Kogi, which has experienced recurrent instances of armed robbery and kidnapping for ransom, lies at the crossroads of North-South routes and has emerged as a critical focal point in Nigeria’s struggle against banditry.

Police operations targeting criminal lodges and forest encampments are viewed as crucial to disrupting networks that frequently depend on local accomplices for logistical support and concealment.
