The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, Mubarak Bello, for unlawful possession of a firearm and impersonating a police officer.
Bello, a resident of Kofar Yamma Quarters in Kurfi Local Government Area, was apprehended around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday during a routine patrol.
Police Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Aliyu, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, said the suspect was intercepted while driving a Toyota Corolla with registration number Lagos GGE 473 BH.
“Upon questioning, the suspect could not provide a satisfactory account of himself or the vehicle, prompting an immediate search,” Aliyu stated.
During the search, operatives reportedly recovered a locally fabricated rifle, four live cartridges, two expended shells, a fake police ID card, and an extra plate number (Kano FGE 68).
Aliyu noted that the suspect, who falsely posed as a police officer with the rank of ‘AD Asst,’ is currently in custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the illegal possession of the firearm and other items.
The command assured residents that further findings would be made public in due course.
