POLICE DETAIN 48-YEAR-OLD MAN OVER ALLEGED MOLESTATION OF MINOR IN RIVERS

The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended a 48-year-old individual, Emmanuel George, for allegedly sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in Port Harcourt.

The occurrence took place on September 6 in Mini Orlu, off Ada-George Road, where the victim, who was visiting her aunt, was attacked while returning from an errand.

In a statement released on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that George, a native of Akwa Ibom but residing in Port Harcourt, enticed the child into a stationary tricycle prior to the assault.

She remarked, “The suspect forcibly pulled the victim into a stationary tricycle, commonly referred to as Keke Napep, restrained her hands, covered her mouth to inhibit her from raising an alarm, and subsequently engaged in unlawful sexual intercourse with her before fleeing the scene. ”

Iringe-Koko clarified that personnel associated with the CP Strike Force mobilized promptly after receiving an emergency call and transported the girl to the Police Hospital for a medical assessment.

“At approximately 2200 hours on the same day, the suspect was captured through coordinated intelligence,” she added.

The police spokesperson revealed that items retrieved from the scene included a bundle of rope allegedly utilized to bind the victim’s hands, a wrap of fufu, and the blue tricycle.

“The suspect voluntarily confessed to the offense during questioning. He is currently in custody along with the recovered items while a thorough investigation is ongoing,” Iringe-Koko further stated.

The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has reiterated the command’s steadfast dedication to ensuring that offenders in the state are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

He additionally urged parents and guardians to vigilantly monitor their children and wards, as such predators may exist within our communities.
