The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has arrested 51 suspected criminals across the state, including forest hideouts, for crimes ranging from kidnapping to rape and human trafficking.

Parading the suspects at the Corps headquarters in Akure on Friday, the state commander, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said the arrests were made across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.

According to him, six suspects were arrested for kidnapping, 37 for breach of law and order, one for rape, and others for offences including anti-open grazing violations, robbery, and human trafficking.

Adeleye revealed that the corps dismantled a notorious kidnap syndicate, arresting its armourer who confessed to participating in five major kidnap operations within the state. He also identified several suspects who posed as hawkers and scrap collectors but acted as informants for criminals.

On human trafficking, one Ibrahim, 42, and Agu Joseph, an escapee from the Okitipupa Custodial Centre, were among those apprehended.

The commander further disclosed that 35 suspects will be charged to court, while the rest will undergo internal dispute resolution.

He warned criminals to steer clear of Ondo State, declaring:

“Ondo State is not safe for criminals. Pack your things and go. Our watchword is to ensure the state remains safe for investors to thrive and work.”

Amotekun Corps, established in 2020 by South-West governors, was set up to tackle insecurity, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and herder-farmer clashes across the region.
