The Bauchi State Police Command has sealed Hamdala Special Medicine Store in the Yelwa area of Bauchi metropolis after a 15-year-old girl reportedly suffered severe injuries from unprofessional treatment administered at the facility.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, saying the action followed a petition from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.
According to the complaint, the patient, Maryam Magaji, was taken to the store where she received an injection for malaria, which later caused significant bodily harm. She was later admitted to Bayara Hospital, where doctors confirmed the injuries were linked to the injection.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Ibrahim Hassan Mamman, was arrested after confessing to administering three doses of intramuscular injection despite not being a licensed pharmacist or doctor. Police also recovered expired drugs, including products manufactured by Fidson Healthcare Plc and Tuyil Pharmaceuticals Ltd., from the store.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Mamman is popularly known as “Degree” in the community and had been running the shop without authorization.
The development highlights the growing dangers of unregulated pharmaceutical practices in Bauchi. In previous clampdowns, the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) sealed hundreds of illegal drug outlets in the state, citing risks of treatment failure, complications, and fatalities.

In a separate case, the police confirmed the arrest of Zuwaira Hassan for allegedly assaulting her 10-year-old stepdaughter in Magama Gumau, Toro LGA.
The victim’s uncle, Yahuza Usman, reported that Zuwaira accused the child of witchcraft and, with the aid of a native doctor, Fatima Abdullahi, inserted a hot metal spoon into the girl’s private parts.
Detectives rescued the child, who is now receiving treatment at General Hospital, Toro. The native doctor was also arrested after admitting to collecting ₦40,000 from Zuwaira for so-called “protective medicine.”
Police investigations further revealed that Zuwaira’s two sons tied the victim’s hands and legs before the abuse was carried out.
The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that both cases be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for discreet investigation.
He assured that the victims would get justice, stressing the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable residents, especially women and children.
