EZEKIEL NATHANIEL SETS NEW NIGERIAN 400MH RECORD, FINISHES FOURTH IN TOKYO FINAL

Ezekiel Nathaniel etched his name in Nigeria’s athletic history at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships, shattering the national record in the men’s 400m hurdles final with an impressive time of 47.11 seconds, securing a fourth-place finish.
Nathaniel was momentarily acknowledged as a World Championship bronze medalist after American Rai Benjamin, the original victor, faced disqualification due to a lane violation.
Nevertheless, following an appeal, Benjamin’s result was reinstated, restoring him to the gold medal position and relegating Nathaniel to fourth place.

Nathaniel’s time of 47.11 seconds was a mere 0.05 seconds behind Qatar’s Abderrahman Samba, who claimed bronze with a time of 47.06 seconds.
Benjamin’s reinstated winning time registered at 46.54 seconds, while Brazil’s Alison dos Santos secured silver with a time of 46.84 seconds.
The 21-year-old’s performance firmly establishes his status among the world’s premier hurdlers and sets a new standard for Nigerian athletics, instilling optimism for potential future success on the global stage.
