The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning to transport unions and associations over the unauthorised use of ‘Union Stickers’ as substitutes for official vehicle registration numbers across the state.

General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the practice as unlawful, stressing that it violates regulatory provisions and poses serious security risks within the metropolis.

He warned that vehicles displaying such stickers instead of government-approved registration plates would be impounded, while offenders would face full sanctions under the law.

“The use of union stickers as identifiers is a gross breach of statutory procedures, undermines public safety, and compromises effective law enforcement. Lagos State will not condone such acts,” Bakare-Oki said.

He further disclosed that LASTMA, in collaboration with security agencies, has intensified surveillance across key routes to enforce compliance.

The General Manager urged transport unions to comply strictly with lawful registration processes, noting that proper documentation of vehicles is crucial for both administrative orderliness and the security of Lagos residents.

The agency assured the public of continued decisive enforcement to sanitise the transport sector, protect lives, and maintain integrity in traffic management across the state.
