The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday arraigned a member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Shamusideen Oladiti, over alleged assault and murder of a dispatch rider on Lagos Island.
Oladiti, 55, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate A.O. Akinde at Court II, Ebute Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court, on a three-count charge bordering on assault and murder contrary to sections 223, 411, and 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Police prosecutor, Anthony Iyeye, told the court that the offences were linked to two violent incidents on Lagos Island — one involving the alleged murder of a dispatch rider and another, a case of assault occasioning harm.
According to the charge sheet, on August 27, 2025, at about 10:00 a.m. on Lewis Street, Lagos Island, Oladiti allegedly beat one Imam Ramon with fist blows, inflicting severe injuries that led to his death at the Lagos Island General Hospital, Marina.
He was also accused of conspiring with others still at large to commit grievous harm on September 17, 2025, and of unlawfully assaulting one Omale Samuel, causing him serious bodily injuries.
The court did not take Oladiti’s plea after the charges were read. Chief Magistrate Akinde ordered that the case file be duplicated and forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
She further directed that Oladiti be remanded in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) pending DPP advice.
The matter was adjourned to October 28, 2025.
