THREE KILLED AS SUV RAMS INTO OKADA NEAR OGBA RIVER BRIDGE IN EDO
By Aishat Momoh. O.
Three persons, including a commercial motorcyclist and his two passengers, were killed in a fatal accident near the Ogba River bridge in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State on Monday night.
Eyewitnesses said the driver of a sport utility vehicle (SUV) lost control and rammed into the okada, instantly killing the rider and his passengers.
The tragedy sparked a protest by colleagues of the deceased okada rider, who identified him as their secretary. They blocked parts of Airport Road, lamenting the frequent loss of lives to road crashes in the area.
One of the protesters, Abdullahi Usman, alleged that the SUV driver was involved in internet fraud, popularly known as “Yahoo Yahoo.”
“These Yahoo Yahoo boys do not care about another person on the road. The accident was very severe. It was the Divisional Police Officer at the Estate Police Station that calmed the situation,” Usman said.
As of press time, efforts to reach the Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cyril Matthew Zango, were unsuccessful.
The latest incident adds to concerns about reckless driving and road safety along the busy Airport Road corridor in Benin City.
