The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed rumours circulating on social media about a planned unrest on the Third Mainland Bridge, assuring residents and motorists that there is no cause for alarm.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the police said officers have been deployed across strategic points to ensure the safety of lives and property and to maintain free flow of traffic on the bridge.

“The Command wishes to assure members of the public that adequate security measures have been put in place to maintain peace and order across the state,” Adebisi stated.

The police said the clarification followed messages circulating online claiming that youths in the Oworonshoki area were planning to block the bridge in protest.

Adebisi urged Lagos residents to disregard such information, describing it as false and capable of causing unnecessary panic. She noted that surveillance has been intensified on major routes, including the Third Mainland Bridge and surrounding areas, to prevent any form of disturbance.

“We appeal to the public to go about their normal activities without fear and to promptly report any suspicious movement to the nearest police formation,” the statement added.

The command reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the state and ensuring that no group or individual undermines public peace under any guise.
