One individual has been officially declared deceased, while 26 individuals have been successfully saved from the collapsed two-story edifice located at 54 Cole Street, adjacent to the Cemetery Bus Stop in the Oyingbo vicinity of Lagos.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, provided this information in a recent situational report disclosed to the media on Monday.

She stated, “Update: One identified as deceased as (survivors) rescued alive totals 26.”

The media had previously reported that an unspecified number of individuals were ensnared following the structure’s collapse in Lagos during the early hours of Monday.

Adeseye, who had earlier validated the incident, revealed that a team from the Sari-Iganmu Fire Station was swiftly sent to the location following a distress call received at approximately 12:20 a.m. on Monday.

The agency confirmed that the construction, which had previously exhibited signs of instability, succumbed while occupants were still within.

“It is a continuing rescue operation involving a pre-existing two-story structure that had allegedly been flagged for distress prior to collapsing on the residents,” the statement indicated.

As of this morning, 15 individuals—including seven men, four women, and four children—were rescued with varying levels of injuries and transported to the Federal Medical Centre in Ebute-Metta and General Hospital, Odan in Lagos Island.
