KWANKWASO URGES UNITY, CALLS FOR DIPLOMATIC ENGAGEMENT OVER TRUMP’S REMARKS ON NIGERIA

Former Kano State Governor and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed concern over recent remarks by United States President Donald Trump, following the latter’s designation of Nigeria as a “country of particular concern.”
In a statement issued on Sunday, Kwankwaso described Trump’s pronouncements as worrisome, stressing that Nigeria remains a sovereign nation facing complex security challenges that affect citizens irrespective of religious, ethnic, or political affiliations.
“The insecurity we face does not distinguish based on religious, ethnic, or political beliefs,” Kwankwaso said.
He urged the United States government to support Nigeria through advanced technological assistance to combat insecurity rather than actions or statements that could deepen internal divisions.
“The United States should assist the Nigerian authorities with better cutting-edge technology to tackle these problems, rather than posing a threat that could further polarise our country,” he stated.
Kwankwaso also called on the Federal Government to strengthen diplomatic engagement by appointing special envoys and permanent ambassadors to represent Nigeria’s interests and manage relations with the American government more effectively.
He further appealed to Nigerians to prioritise national unity at this critical time.
“To my fellow countrymen, this is an important moment where we should emphasise unity of belonging over division. God bless Nigeria,” Kwankwaso added.
