The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested three suspects for allegedly attacking and robbing a commercial tricyclist of his vehicle in the Diplomat Area of Sokoto.

The suspects, identified as Yahaya Atta and Mas’ud Abubakar, both residents of Diplomat Area, and Mustapha Mohammed of Emir Yahaya Area, were apprehended following swift police action. This was disclosed on Wednesday in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i.

According to the statement, the incident occurred around 9:00 pm on October 13, 2025, when the suspects posed as passengers and stopped the victim, Usman Babangida, requesting a ride to Dambowa Roundabout.

However, midway through the trip, the suspects allegedly assaulted Babangida, tied him with a rope, pushed him out of the moving tricycle, and escaped with the vehicle.

Rufa’i confirmed that officers successfully recovered the stolen tricycle.

“The three suspects have since been arraigned before a court,” he added.

The Commissioner of Police for the state commended officers for the prompt intervention and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating crime and safeguarding residents. He further urged the public to remain vigilant and provide reliable information to support police operations.

In a related development, the Anambra State Police Command on Tuesday announced the arrest of a 20-year-old suspect in Umuezeiyi Village, Achina, Aguata LGA, for alleged armed robbery and defilement. The suspect reportedly invaded a shop in the community on October 29, armed with a locally made single-barrel gun and a small axe, and stole 30,000.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing in both cases.
