The Delta State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered multiple firearms during a coordinated operation along the Asaba–Benin Expressway.

Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Monday in Asaba.

According to the statement, the operation followed a distress call received at about 6:30 p.m. on November 23, 2025, regarding a robbery incident on the highway.

He said the Commander of the Eagle Net Special Squad, SP Danyaya Inusa, swiftly deployed surveillance teams in joint action with operatives of the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service.

“Upon arrival, the criminal gang ambushed the operatives with sporadic gunfire. The team responded and overpowered them, forcing them into a disorganised retreat. A fierce chase led to the arrest of the suspects,” Edafe said.

The suspects were identified as: Oghenemaro Martins (25), Tarebi Miracle Ogbada (22), Okorie James Kalu (19)

Recovered items include: One English-made Beretta pistol, Four locally made pistols, Four live 9mm Beretta ammunition, a laptop, An iPhone S, Other unspecified exhibits

In a separate operation, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, arrested three suspected cultists on November 25 at about 5:30 p.m.

Those arrested are: Miracle Umukoro (52), Mudiaga Ukavwe (31), Solomon Oghoro a.k.a. Spartan (30)

The suspects, who reportedly confessed to being members of the Aye Confraternity, were apprehended with: One pump-action gun, Six live cartridges, One cutlass, One Toyota Sienna vehicle (Reg. No. LSR 621 JW), allegedly used for surveillance and logistics

Edafe said all suspects remain in custody while investigations continue to trace additional accomplices and dismantle their operational structure.

Last week, it was reported that the Niger State Police Command arrested seven armed robbery suspects believed to have attacked residents on highways and in their homes.

Two of the suspects, Habibu Isyaku (20) and Musa Yakubu (18), were arrested during a routine stop-and-search operation in Minna.

The Delta State Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities.
